Fall Creek American Legion Post 376 hosted the program at Trinity Cemetery on North State Street.

SPARTA, Wis. (WXOW) – Congressman Derrick Van Orden and U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) Doug Collins hosted a veterans roundtable at the Sparta American Legion Thursday.

Wisconsin veterans had the chance to ask questions and discuss the challenges they face. Both Van Orden and Collins said educating veterans about available benefits and policy changes remains a major priority.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins visited Onalaska’s Morning Star Dairy Farm on Monday, touring the facility and participating in a roundtable attended by a group of La Crosse area farmers.

Rollins — joined by U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden and the undersecretary of the Food Safety and Inspection Service, Mindy Brashears — touted the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and Trump administration trade policies as key to securing farmers’ financial future.

An Onalaska dairy farm hosted the U.S. secretary of agriculture to promote farming achievements around the Badger State.

Secretary Brooke Rollins spoke at the Morning Star dairy farm at Brice Prairie, touring the site with local US House Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Prairie du Chien), before having a roundtable meeting.

U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden says Social Security tax reductions for seniors in President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act would have extended long beyond 2028 were it not for Senate Democrats.

Van Orden met with seniors Wednesday at Hunter’s Last Chance Bar and Grill in West Salem to promote tax deductions included in the Working Family Tax Cuts.


April 9, 2026

As tax season is wrapping up, U.S. House Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Prairie du Chien) met with about 20 people Wednesday in West Salem, promoting the “working families” tax cuts available for a four-year period.

Under the tax cut bill, people 65 and older may claim an extra tax deduction of $6,000 for singles and $12,000 for couples.

Van Orden told reporters at Hunter’s Last Chance in West Salem, that the tax cuts expire in 2028 because of Democrats.

WEST SALEM, Wis. (WXOW) – Congressman Derrick Van Orden met with residents Wednesday, April 8 in West Salem to take questions and discuss the Working Family Tax Cuts.

Van Orden said the plan eliminates taxes on Social Security benefits for 88% of seniors. He said the goal is to ease financial stress for older Americans and that responses to the bill have been positive.

CHIPPEWA FALLS — Plans to renovate or replace the Chippewa County morgue received a financial boost recently, as the county has received $600,000 in federal aid towards the project.

U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Prairie du Chien, inserted the funding request in legislation that President Donald Trump signed into law in February. It is the same measure that provided $2.25 million to upgrade the water system at an Altoona mobile home park.
