Van Orden Supports Government Funding Measure

November 14, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) voted to pass H.R. 6363 – Further Continuing Appropriations and Other Extensions Act.

“When I voted to keep the government open in September, I vowed to work with my colleagues in good faith to find a path forward to responsibly fund our government while supporting the needs of my constituents,” said Rep. Van Orden. “Unfortunately, many of my colleagues did not make such a pledge and instead decided to further delay the appropriations process, forcing the House to remain in gridlock.”

“So, once again, today, I voted to keep our government open and support our farmers, veterans, and troops. We must cut wasteful spending in Washington. Passing this funding extension bill will give Congress the time to do so while maintaining the operation of our government.”

“I will continue to hold my colleagues accountable who would rather force a shutdown than work together towards responsibly funding the government. That is why I introduced H.J.Res. 101 to propose an amendment to the Constitution that would prohibit Members of Congress from receiving a paycheck during a government shutdown. It is simple: the only people who should not get paid during a shutdown is Congress, and it is time for Members to put their money where their mouth is and face the consequences of their inaction.”
