Van Orden Statement on the Resettlement of Refugees in Eau Claire
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) released the following statement on the potential resettlement of refugees in Eau Claire:
“We have a responsibility to keep our nation as safe and secure as possible,” said Rep. Van Orden. “In order to do so, any and all who wish to migrate, be granted asylum, or resettle as a refugee in the United States must be vetted to the highest degree possible. I have been closely monitoring the potential resettlement of refugees in Eau Claire and have been engaged in conversations with City Council President Emily Berge, World Relief Organization, and the U.S. Department of State on this issue.
“To ensure the safety of the citizens of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and the nation, I have urged the Department of State to provide me with a detailed report of the vetting procedures they have conducted, including who these individuals are, documentation that the proper inquiries and investigations for refugee resettlement were thoroughly conducted, as well as the information that was available, collected, and considered on each individual. I look forward to receiving this report from the Department of State so that I can do my due diligence and get the people of Wisconsin’s Third District the answers they deserve."
