Van Orden Statement on Motion to Vacate
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Van Orden released the following statement after voting to table the motion to vacate Speaker Mike Johnson:
“When eight Republicans chose to vote with 208 Democrats to vacate Kevin McCarthy’s speakership, the House could not continue its important work that the American people sent us here to do like investigating President Biden’s disastrous retreat from Afghanistan that resulted in the needless deaths of 13 American servicemembers, reigning in the weaponization of federal agencies against American citizens and President Trump, and most important to my constituents, completing the Farm Bill.
“I understand the frustration the American public has with Congress, and no one is more frustrated than I am, but this motion to vacate would have only played into Congressional Democrats’ hands and reduced our ability to help everyday Americans who are struggling with everyday problems caused by the Biden administration.”
