Van Orden, Chairman Bost Introduce the Enhancing the Transitioning Servicemember’s Experience Act

April 26, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, in correspondence with Financial Literacy Month, Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03), Chairman of the Veterans’ Affairs Economic Opportunity Subcommittee, and Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Mike Bost (R-IL) announced the introduction of the Enhancing the Transitioning Servicemember’s Experience (ETS) Act. The ETS Act will provide improvements to certain programs used by servicemembers who are nearing separation, as well as veterans who recently separated, from the U.S. military.

“We owe it to our servicemembers to provide them with the best resources possible to assist them in their transition from active duty to civilian,” said Congressman Van Orden. “This includes improving financial literacy counseling so they are equipped to make educated financial decisions, a key component of the ETS Act. I thank Chairman Bost for his support on this important legislation so we can set our servicemembers up to succeed in the civilian world.”

“Too many veterans and their families endure financial hardships after they transition out of the military,” said Chairman Bost. “My friend and fellow veteran Rep. Van Orden’s bill, the Enhancing the Transitioning Servicemember’s Experience Act, is the right approach to require a more in-depth financial literacy discussion so that transitioning servicemembers and their families have the appropriate knowledge and tools to get ahead of their finances, instead of coming to VA when it’s too late. House Republicans are focused on making this vitally important improvement to TAP to make sure today’s servicemembers are getting the best Transition Assistance Program possible.”
