Van Orden Cosponsors Legislation to Reverse Biden WOTUS Rule
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) joined 153 Members of Congress in introducing a joint resolution of disapproval under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) on the Biden Administration’s flawed and burdensome “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS) rule. This rule would allow for sweeping changes to the federal government’s authority to regulate what is considered a navigable water, which will have enormous impacts on small businesses, manufacturers, farmers, home and infrastructure builders, local communities, water districts, and private property owners.
“The recent decision by unelected bureaucrats to prematurely implement a new WOTUS rule is another example of the Biden administration's war on rural America,” said Van Orden. “Our farmers are responsible stewards of the land who feed our nation. They deserve a government that works for them, not prevents them from doing their job."
Last week, Van Orden also joined 193 House Republicans in signing a letter demanding that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers postpone any further agency action on WOTUS until the U.S. Supreme Court issues an opinion on Sackett v. EPA.
The Biden administration has repeatedly hindered farmers' ability to grow our nation’s food and fiber through increased red tape and burdensome regulations. The new WOTUS rule places unnecessary restrictions on farmers’ ability to make decisions about their own property, while sowing further confusion about existing rules.
