March 13, 2026

SPARTA, Wis. (WXOW) — Congressman Derrick Van Orden and U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy made two important stops in Sparta Friday, March 13 focusing on the future of the Monroe highway and the Wisconsin trucking industry.

Their first stop was at the Monroe County Highway Shop. They discussed the recent $8.4 million investment aimed at upgrading Monroe County highways.

Van Orden also took the time to address the war in Iran at the event.

"So what we need to do is make sure that these radical Islamic mullahs that have been over the entire world, especially the global economy, like trying to close the Strait of Hormuz or 20% of the world's oil transits through, that they can't do that anymore," said Rep. Van Orden.

The pair later visited Tim Neubauer Trucking for a roundtable discussion. They highlighted the vital role of Wisconsin's trucking workforce in driving the state's economy.
