TOWN OF CAMPBELL, Wis. (WXOW) - Wisconsin 3rd District Representative Derrick Van Orden met with Town of Campbell supervisors Wednesday afternoon. He confirmed they're receiving more federal funding appropriated to dealing with "PFAS" or "forever chemicals that have contaminated wells. The total: $2 million.

"This isn't the most popular Republican position, I don't really care," Van Orden said. He noted how it was the federal government that mandated the use of fire fighting foam that put the chemicals into the land, so it's the federal government's responsibility for cleaning it up.

Van Orden and the supervisors also visited to possible sites where the town could build an elevated storage tank. The advantage of the tanks being an increase in water pressure for residents. The town has already started with drafting plans with an engineering firm as they look to make their own municipal water system.

"When you turn on your faucet, it doesn't ask if you're a Republican or a Democrat," Van Orden said. "I'm very proud to have secured this funding working with everybody here in the township of Campbell and we're looking forward to making sure these projects get done so that people can actually drink water out of their faucets."

At the federal level, PFAS funding has shown bi-partisan accomplishments. Republican Van Orden as well as Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin have secured monies.

The same can not be said for the state level assistance. Currently the Legislature's Joint Finance Committee is still refusing to release any of a $125 million dollar fund established for PFAS assistance.
