SPARTA, Wis. (WKBT) -- Monroe County will receive $8.4 million in federal funding to improve critical roadways, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Congressman Derrick Van Orden announced during a visit to Sparta.

The funding represents a significant investment in the county's transportation infrastructure and was secured through a federal funding project sponsored by Van Orden. The money will focus on improving safety and enhancing freight movement on key roadways throughout Monroe County.

Duffy emphasized the administration's commitment to infrastructure improvements during the announcement, highlighting the need for expanded road and bridge projects across Wisconsin and the nation.

"I think we need to focus on the deliverables, you need more roads and bridges. Not just in Monroe County but across Wisconsin, and across the country. And that's what we are focused on in Washington," Duffy said.

The Transportation Secretary also noted the practical impact the funding will have on local road maintenance and construction efforts.

"You guys are going to be able to do a lot more work with a lot more money to help make sure we have great roads in your community," Duffy said.
