FY24 Community Project Funding Requests:

NOTE: Projects are organized in alphabetical order by county location of project and then alphabetical by name of proposed recipient and then alphabetically by title of project name.
 

Project Name: Chippewa Valley Corridor Reconstruction
Proposed Recipient: Eau Claire County 
Address of the Recipient:  2000 Spooner Ave, Altoona, WI 54720
Amount of the Request: $25,000,000
Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because by reconstructing County Road T it will improve safety, sustainability, and resiliency.  This project will also address economic accessibility needs and improve safety outcomes for the region and nearby localities.

Project Name: Chippewa County Emergency Communications Project 
Proposed Recipient: Chippewa County Sherriff’s Office 
Address of the Recipient: 32 E Spruce St, Chippewa Falls WI 54729
Amount of the Request: $196,470.46
Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because it will be used to improve emergency communications and solve the county’s current inability to communicate with neighboring agencies by updating the radios to be digitally compatible.

Project Name: Eau Claire PFAS Removal Project 
Proposed Recipient: The City of Eau Claire

Amount of the Request: $19,200,000
Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because it will ensure a clean, safe, and reliable drinking water source for approximately 70,000 residents, and over 100,000 community users.

Project Name: Gundersen Health Services Emergency System
Proposed Recipient: Gundersen Health System 
Address of the Recipient: 1900 South Avenue, La Crosse, WI 54601 
Amount of the Request: $1,106,000
Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because it would be used for the purchase of ambulances and other emergency equipment.  This will allow the hospital to provide prehospital care and ambulance transfer in rural communities within WI-03, helping to ensure patients receive timely and high-quality care.

Project Name: La Farge Electric Substation Relocation
Proposed Recipient: The Village of La Farge 
Address of the Recipient: 105 West Main Street, La Farge WI 54639
Amount of the Request: $1,328,019
Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because it would be used to relocate a critical electrical substation and infrastructure out of the floodplain to higher ground to eliminate future damage to the substation and reduce risk to lives and loss of property.  The Village has experience significant flooding over many decades leading to lengthy power outages.

Project Name: Lake Altoona Bedload Sediment Collector
Proposed Recipient: Lake Altoona Rehabilitation and Protection District 
Address of the Recipient: PO Box 92, Altoona, WI 54720
Amount of the Request: $800,000
Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because it would be used to refurbish and install a bedload sediment collector system into the Eau Claire River—a highly utilized recreational lake that impacts the local economy by driving tourism, home values, business, and industry.

Project Name: Lancaster Fire Station Renovation
Proposed Recipient: City of Lancaster 
Address of the Recipient: 206 S Madison St, Lancaster, WI 53813
Amount of the Request: $1,125,000
Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because this funding would be used to make critical structural, mechanical, and electrical upgrades to the fire station.  It will proved these fire and EMS responders with a facility that will serve their needs for the next 25-30 years of operation.

Project Name: LCFD Station 
Proposed Recipient: La Crosse Fire Department

Amount of the Request: $4.5 million
Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because it would be used for the construction of a new fire station which will enhance community emergency response objectives by updating the fire station.

Project Name: Monroe County Landfill
Proposed Recipient: Monroe County, Wisconsin
Address of the Recipient: 124 N Court St, Sparta, WI 54656
Amount of the Request: $951,961
Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because it would extend infrastructure for the next full cell construction at the landfill which has quickly reached capacity due to Operation Allies expenses. It would increase the landfill life for an additional five years.

Project Name: Recycling Infrastructure for Central Wisconsin 
Proposed Recipient: Portage County Solid Waste
Address of the Recipient:  600 Moore Road, Plover, WI 54467
Amount of the Request: $3,699,400
Explanation: The project would be used for sorting equipment to create a hub and spoke recycling infrastructure which will optimize and innovate materials management in central Wisconsin. The project will remove the finical burden of transferring recyclable for processing by funding the purchase and installation of sorting equipment for Portage County’s Material Recovery Facility.

Project Name: Replacement of Analog Security Cameras and Storage for Portage County Buildings
Proposed Recipient: Portage County
Address of the Recipient: 156 Church Street, Stevens Point, WI 54481
Amount of the Request: $504,038.18
Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because it will be used to enhance the current system by adding more than 30 cameras and changing the remaining 150 cameras to digital.  This funding prioritizes the safety and security of staff and visitors to Portage County buildings and exteriors.

Project Name: Richland Center Water, Sewer, and Road Infrastructure Expansion 
Proposed Recipient: City of Richland Center
Address of the Recipient: 450 S Main St, Richland Center, WI 53581
Amount of the Request: $2,949,962
Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because it would be used to extend infrastructure to serve the site of a new hospital including water and sewer infrastructure.

Project Name: River Falls Fire Department Renovation
Proposed Recipient: City of River Falls
Address of the Recipient: 222 Lewis Street, River Falls, WI 54022
Amount of the Request: $4,750,000
Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because it will allow the River Farms Fire Department (RFFD) to not only meet the current needs of their community but to prepare for anticipated needs for decades to come.  The funding will be used to renovate the fire station currently occupied by the RFFD.

Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because it would provide advanced security tools for intrusion prevention, detection and response, threat intelligence, and vulnerability management as well as expert support focused on cybersecurity for rural electric services.

Explanation: The project would be a valuable use of taxpayer funding because it would be used for a new municipal water system for residents and businesses.  It will ensure clean and safe water for residents and create a method for distributing reliable drinking water.
